on leaving the National Theatre after 12 years, The Bridge focuses on the
commissioning and production of new shows, as well as staging the occasional
The new 900-seat adaptable auditorium is
designed to answer the needs of contemporary audiences and theatre-makers and
is capable of responding to shows with different formats (end-stage,
thrust-stage and promenade). It is the first wholly new theatre of scale
to be added to London’s commercial theatre sector in 80 years. The Bridge
was designed by Steve Tompkins and Roger Watts of Haworth Tompkins Architects
(winner of the 2014 Stirling Prize).
This is a rare opportunity to see the
theatre before it is filled and in use for a show, there are 12 spots for those
who want to get to know London's coolest new theatre.
The tour will begin in the main foyer, we
will then show you around the Bridge from the front public space to the back
technical space, not open to the public.
